Bert BenjaminBorn 17 Dec 1870; died Oct 1969 .American inventor of the Farmall tractor and the power take-off system on agricultural tractors. He held 140 patents for tractor and tractor accessories, including a cotton picker, corn shredder, and corn binder. The Farmall tractor he developed was the first tractor that could plow and cultivate row crops. Benjamin graduated from Iowa State College with a mechanical engineering degree in 1893. He became a draftsman-designer with McCormick Harvesting Machine Company, which merged with several other companies in 1902 to form the International Harvester Company (IHC), where he continued to work until 1940.«[Image: Farmall tractor, 1911] |
