George Stephenson, who lived near this colliery designed his first locomotive - “Blucher” - in 1814 for a colliery.1829: The steam-powered locomotive, called “Rocket,” built by Robert Stephenson, was named the best locomotive to run on England's Liverpool to Manchester railroad in an English contest called the Rainhill Trials.
