Died 8 Jun 1970 at age 62 (born 1 Apr 1908). American psychologist who believed that man has a natural drive to healthiness, and developed this into his self-actualization theory of psychology. In his early career, working with monkeys, he observed that some needs take precedence over others, for example, thirst takes priority over hunger. Later, he created his now famous hierarchy of needs.
