Tutankamun tomb antechamber sightedIn 1922, archaeologist Howard Carter pierced the second of two doorways closing the tomb of King Tutankamun. Carter made archaeological history by unearthing the first Egyptian pharaonic tomb that still contained most of its treasures. Carter recorded in his notes, "...we made a tiny breach in the top left hand corner to see what was beyond." On this day, Carter and his backer Lord Carnarvon saw the Antechamber through this hole, where "...the interior of the chamber gradually loomed before one, with its strange and wonderful medley of extraordinary and beautiful objects heaped upon one another."
