Phineas Davis

Born 27 Jan 1792; died 27 Sep 1835 at age 43. clockmaker and inventor who turned from his self-taught skills making jewellery and timepieces to invent the first successful coal burning locomotive constructed in the U.S. Earlier, railroads used imported locomotives. He then worked developing the engine for that railroad, but died only a few years later, in a train derailment accident.«
