Bjorn Kjellstrom

Born 9 Sep 1910; died 2 Sep 1995 at age 84.Swedish inventor of the Silva compass which featured a rotating compass dial, and a transparent protractor base plate. As founder of Silva, Inc. in North America, Kjellstrom helped introduce the orienteering sport to the U.S. in the1940s, in part as a way to promote his product. He wrote Be Expert with Map and Compass, considered to be the "bible of orienteering."
