Artificial granite In 1923, Time magazine described a process using extreme heat and pressure that could make granite and jade artificially within a few hours at the geophysical laboratory of the Carnegie Institution of Washington, D.C. The raw ingredients of the minerals were heated in a small electric furnace to 2,500°F under a pressure gradually increased up to 200,000-psi.
