Eye bankIn 1944, the first eye bank in the U.S. opened in New York City through the efforts of Dr. Richard T. Paton of Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital and Dr. John McLean of New York Hospital. These hospitals cooperated to establish a joint project at New York Hospital, New York City. Nineteen other hospitals in the metropolitan area also cooperated and contributed eyes to the bank. |
